This tutorial is the easiest way to root Motorola Droid 2 and Motorola Droid X. Just follow the simple steps below and you will root your device running Android 2.2 Froyo in a matter of minutes.

Before you start read this:  Even though it was tested and works for both phones , you will follow this tutorial at your own risk. Rooting your device might compromise your warranty and even brick your phone.

If you have decided to continue just follow the easy steps below. Before you start the process you need to download the necessary tools:

Downlaod SDK Android SDK package for your OS here.

Download rooting software for your OS here (Windows ) or here ( Mac / Linux)

Download Motorola Drivers ( Windows only) here, and install them on your PC.

Now that you have finished downloading, follow the 8 step guide  below:
Step 1 : Extract the files from the Android SDK package onto your C drive and then place all the files inside the 1 click root .zip file in the Tools folder of  Android SDK.

Step 2 : Enable USB debugging mode on your device ( Applications / Development ) and put it in PC mode ( Notification blind / USB connection / PC mode)

Step 3 : Connect the device to your laptop via USB.

Step 4 : Go to the tools folder of Android SDK and run doroot1.bat ( Windows ) or doroot1.sh and use chmod 0755 ( Linux / Mac ).

Step 5 : After following the instructions for the application , you will be prompted with a $ sign.

Step 6 : Enter   [./data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin] and let it do its job. Be patient , because the process might take up to 15 mins to complete.

Step 7 : After the process is complete, in order to check if the root was successful, enter the shell with adb shell and you will be prompted with a #. If you do not see the # , that means that the rooting process was unsuccessful and you have to do it again. ( Just go back to step 6)

Step 8 : If the root was successful , and you see the # sign  , exit the shell ( type exit ) and run doroot2.bat (or doroot2.sh Mac / Linux) from the Android SDK tools folder.

Congratulations, your device is now successfully rooted.
