Thanks to the people at  the XDA Forum, rooting  Samsung Galaxy S ( and Captivate / Vibrant ) is now easier than ever. All you need is to install the One-Click tool and follow the easy steps below for rooting your Samsung Galaxy Device in a matter of minutes. The One-Click Root tool also allows users to remove rooting from their devices.

The method has been tested both with Android 2.1 and 2.2 Froyo but there are still risks involved. Also, unrooting is available only for Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.1 .

Before starting the process know this: You could end up with a brick phone or even lose your warranty so if you decide to proceed you will do it on your own risk!

One-Click Root Tutorial for Samsung Galaxy S I9000

Before starting the process download the software here and Samsung Kies here.

  1. First you need to enable debugging mode. Go to Settings , select Applications and then Development.
  2. Connect your Samsung Galaxy S to your PC via USB
  3. Launch Galaxy S I9000 One-Click Root.exe. You can find it in your previously downloaded folder.
  4. Start the process by clicking the appropriate button for your device OS build. Your device will restart and enter recovery mode.
  5. Without unplugging the USB cable , launch Apply Update.zip from your device.  You can navigate using the volume keys and launch using the home button.
  6. Wait for the process to finish and you’re done.

There will be a new application available in your device entitled Superuser Permission, which will prove that the rooting process was successful.

thinking its something to do with the version... i get same messageModel No: GT-I9000 Firmware Version: 2.2 Baseband Version: I9000BOJP3 Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 (still displaying root@se-s608 #1 - from 2.1 root) Build Number: FROYO.BOJPBT-mobile branding is annoying as it is but if it also means there is no way to restore my previous app & data backups or improve the laggy interface then i think i will looking to scrap the lot and go 2.1...please let me know if you have found a solution to the update signing!Cheers

I downloaded the zip file and turned on debugging as instructed.....i opened the one click root thing while the phone was connected and clicked on one click root 2.2..then the cmd screen opens on the monitor and the phone restart and comes to the recovery mode. When i select the Apply Update.zip after a few seconds it says E:signature verification failed" Installation aborted. What should I do? Thx :)

  17. Darius February 23, 2011 at 1:22 AM

I got the same problem as most others: Whenever I tried to manually do it, with any file, I'd get the "E: Signature verification failed" error. I eventually used a "Superoneclick 1.6.5", which said that it properly rooted my Galaxy S, but when I try to use a program like RyanZA's One Click Lag Fix, it says that it won't work because it isn't rooted.

if it doesn't work ( although it should work) try rooting with Z4Root and follow tutorial Here.

        Where can I get Z4Root?

      • Andrei Alexandru February 23, 2011 at 12:50 PM
