The latest version of Redsnow brings an untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak to the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPad Touch 4G, and the iPod Touch 3G. The release leverages the talents of pod2g who discovered the exploit and the researchers at the Chronic Development team who integrated and packaged the exploit into a distributable jailbreak.

Pod2g’s jailbreak comes with the advice that iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch users should avoid upgrading to iOS 5.0.2 or iOS 5.1 when they become available to preserve the ability to jailbreak in the future.

Unlockers should stay away from stock iOS 5.0.1.  They should instead use Redsnow to create an already jailbroken 5.0.1 custom IPSW and then restore that IPSW using iTunes.  If your iDevice is already jailbroken on 5.0.1 tethered, you can run the latest version of Redsnow to jailbreak 5.0.1.

The guide to creating an untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak is below.

 Jailbreak 5.0.1

Step 1:  Restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to IOS 5.0.1 using iTunes

Step 2:  Download iOS 5.0.1 from the download links below

Step 3:  Start Redsnow and select “Extras” followed by “Select IPSW

Step 4:  Browse for the previously downloaded 5.0.1 firmware file

Step 5:  Select “Jailbreak” and then “Install Cydia

Step 6:  Follow the on-screen instructions to enter DFU mode and let Redsnow work its magic

Step 7: The jailbreak is completed once your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch restarts.  Enjoy!!

You have successfully managed to jailbreak 5.0.1 untethered and will not need to be connected to a computer every time the idevice is restarted. You  got a fully functional Cydia that.

If you encounter any issues while you jailbreak 5.0.1 untethered feel free to post a comment below to get help.
