How to jailbreak iOS 5.0 with Snowbreeze 2.8b8 [tutorial]

Snowbreeze 2.8b8 can be used to jailbreak iOS 5.0 on the following devices:  iPhone 4, iPhone 3Gs, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and iPad1.  This release, although still tethered, includes some new features the will help the jailbreaking process.  The features are listed below:

  • Baseband is preserved
  • Instant IPSW detection
  • Hacktivate possible
  • iOS 5 Gold Master full support
  • UDID Developer check removal is no longer needed

The steps to jailbreak your iPhone 4, iPhone 3Gs, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G or iPad1 with Snowbreeze 2.8b8 are listed below.

Step 1: Download Snowbreeze 2.8b8 for windows

Step 2:  Start Snowbreeze and select the blue arrow in the bottom right corner.

Step 3: Locate the iOS 5 firmware file and then click on the blue arrow.

Step 4: Your device’s model and firmware version should now be displayed.  Select the blue arrow again.

Step 5: Select the jailbreak mode that you wish to perform. (If you plan to unlock your iPhone then select “Expert Mode” and click on the magic blue arrow).

Step 6: Select the “Build IPSW”option from the four options that are displayed and click on the blue arrow

Step 7: Allow Snowbreeze 2.8b8 to work its magic on the iOS 5 iPSW file. Do not click anything

Step 8: Plug in your device and select “OK”.

Step 9:  Enter DFU mode by following the on-screen instructions.  A confirmation prompt and a black screen confirms a successful entry into DFU mode.

Step 10: Load the custom firmware onto your device by opening iTunes, locating your device, and selecting Restore while holding the Shift key on your keyboard.

Step 11:  Select the custom modified firmware and then select OK

After iTunes applies the jailbroken firmware, the jailbreak process is complete.  If you need to reboot your device, you will have to use software such as iBooty to return the device into a jailbroken state.
