Redsnow 0.9.9b5 is the latest version of the iPhone Dev Team’s jailbreaking tool.  It can be used to jailbreak your iPhone 4, 3 GS, iPad1, and iPod Touch devices that are running iOS 5.0.  A new feature for this update is automatic IPSW detection which loads the latest IPSW file instead of the user manually supplying it.  This version is only available for Mac users at this time.  Windows users can follow the Snowbreeze 2.8b8 tutorial to jailbreak their iOS 5.0 device.  This jailbreak is tethered meaning that you will have to boot the device with a computer that is running Redsnow for the device to continue operating in a jailbroken state.  Without further ado, the instructions and files are detailed below.

Step 1:  Update your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to iOS 5 via iTunes

Step 2:  Download Redsnow 0.9.9b5 using the link below

Step 3:  Start Redsnow 0.9.9b5

Step 4:  Select Extras and then Select IPSW to select your IPSW file

Step 5:  Select iOS 5

Step 6:  Go back and select Jailbreak

Step 6:  Check the “Install Cydia” box and then follow the on-screen instructions to enter DFU mode

To boot your iDevice in a tethered state, run Redsnow 0.9.9b5 again, select Extras and then select Just Boot.

Following these instructions will allow you to jailbreak your iOS 5 device.  Leave us a comment if you have any questions.  The files that are needed are listed below.
