Redsnow 0.9.8 can be used to jailbreak your iPod Touch, iPhone 4, 3GS and iPad devices that have iOS 5 Beta 3 installed on them.  The Jailbreak is still tethered which means that the device has to be plugged into a computer that is running Redsnow whenever the device is restarted in order to boot in a jailbroken state.

iPhone Dev Team member, MuscleNerd tweeted that Redsnow 0.9.8 can still be used to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 3.

Unlockers must stay away from Redsnow 0.9.8 for iOS 5 in order to preserve the ability to unlock with Ultrasnow.

Follow the guide below to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with Redsnow 0.9.8 for iOS 5 beta 3.

  • Download the iOS 5 Beta.  This step requires an Apple Developer Acount
  • Update or Restore your iDevice to iOS 5 using iTunes 10.5 Beta
  • Download Redsnow 0.9.8 for your iDevice from the download links given below
  • Run Redsnow 0.9.8 and browse for the previously downloaded iOS 5 Beta firmware file.
  • Check the install Cydia box and click next.
  • Turn Device off while leaving it plugged in to the computer
  • Enter DFU mode by pressing and holding the “Home” and “Power” button for 10 seconds before releasing the “Power” button, but continuing to hold the “Home” Button for 10 additional seconds.
  • Once your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is in DFU mode Redsnow 0.9.8 will begin the jailbreak process.
  • All you have to do now is wait, and when your iDevice reboots, you will have a fully jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 5 beta 3.

That’s it! You can now enjoy your jailbroken iDevice and install Cydia apps at your own free will.
