Developer iH8sn0w recently released an updated version of Sn0wbreeze to Jailbreak iOS 5.0 Beta.  The new release, Snowbreeze v2.8 BETA 3, jailbreaks iOS 5 on the following devices:

Untethered

iPhone 3GS (old bootrom)

Tethered

iPhone 3GS (new bootrom)
iPhone 4 GSM
iPhone 4 CDMA
iPod Touch 3G
iPod Touch 4
iPad 1G

Using Snowbreeze enables the ability to unlock your device in the future because the iDevice’s baseband is preserved.

iOS Jailbreak 5.0 begins with downloading the software that is listed below.

(1)    Sn0wbreeze 2.8b3 for windows

(2)    iOS 5 Beta Firmware*

(3)    iTunes 10.5*

*Note: iOS 5 Beta Firmware and iTunes 10.5 can only be legally obtained if you are a registered Apple Developer.

The steps to Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta are listed below.

Step 1.  Run Snowbreeze and select the blue arrow

Step 2.  Select the iOS 5 firmware that was previously downloaded

Step 3.  Select Next after Sn0wbreeze recognizes the firmware file.  (This can take a little while.)

Step 4.  Select Expert Mode to apply standard jailbreak with Cydia installed.

Step 5.  Select Build IPSW. At this point, Snowbreeze builds your custom firmware.  Do not cancel.

Step6.  Follow onscreen instructions to enter DFU mode.

Step 7.  Use iTunes to load iOS 5 on your device:

(1) Open iTunes 10.5 Beta

(2) Select your iOS device by clicking on its icon on the iTunes sidebar

(3) Press and hold Left Shift button on the keyboard and click on Restore button.

(4) Selct the custom firmware that was just created. (Do not select Update, Restore or Check for Update options.)  iTunes will begin to install iOS on you device.  A message will be displayed once the process has been completed.

Use iBooty to boot into tethered mode.  These steps need to be completed whenever the device is turned on or rebooted.

Step 8.  Start iBooty and select the recently Jailbroken device.

Step 9.  Select Start and follow the onscreen directions.  This is re-enter DFU mode.  At this point, iBooty will automatically perform the necessary steps to boot your device into a clean jailbroken state.
