OnLive, the cloud based mobile gaming service, is nearing the final stages of its release. During the E3 conference, OnLive announced that their subscription service would be available for the iOS and Android devices starting this fall. The subscription would include support for multiplayer and voice chat. As an alternative, the users would be able to use the tablets as controllers for games that are played through OnLive TV consoles.

The service would also include the feature called Brag Clip that allows users to record 10 seconds of gameplay and share the movie clips on Facebook. The core principle behind OnLive is easy to understand: the service is tracking the input into your device, and in return is broadcasting to you the signal containing the video stream of the game, removing the necessity of owning devices with high capacity for graphic rendering.

For the time being, the OnLive library consists of over 100 relatively new games and our only doubts are concerning that the lag won’t be noticeable. However, we believe in the potential of this technology, and we see the release of the service as a huge step forward for cloud computing.
