Android Is To Remain Open

Last week we have covered an article that covered Google’s Android potential lock down. We have discussed a scenario in which Google would have had total control over what changes could be made in its mobile operating system, especially in the user interface category and the emerging possibility that Google would even start to impose the hardware used in the Android certified devices, just like Microsoft does.

Andy Rubin, the father of Android, responded to those allegations, and clearly stated that Android is to remain the same. When Android was launched, it was free to use by anyone, and if anyone would want its device to be Google certified as in able to run Google’s proprietary applications like Gmail and Google Maps, it should only be capable of passing certain compatibility tests.

On the matter at hand, the publication of Honeycomb’s source code, “the father of Android” says that it will be achieved as soon as Honeycomb will be optimized for phones, and the temporary delay does not affect Google’s strategy.

So there you go, the big companies can breathe in relief, the users that loved certain customizations made by certain companies, can sleep soundly knowing that those won’t go away, and the updates for the OS will keep on emerging late.
