A Digitimes report states that HTC is about to acquire 82 approved patents and 14 pending patents from ADC Telecommunications, a mobile telecommunications company that has the headquarters in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

This whole deal will cost HTC about 75 million dollars, money that are supposed to cover for the intellectual property that covers wireless communication technologies. The patents will be used in further developing the technology for the 4G smartphones range that currently is including the AT&T Atrix 4G and the Verizon Wireless Thunderbolt.

These patents are supposed to cover HTC’s back against future legal threats, but the Taiwanese manufacturer should be focusing a little more on the present, especially since besides the commercial battle with Apple there is a legal one as well over reciprocal patent infringement, and another lawsuit with the SIM card manufacturer, Gemalto.

We are curious to see how things will end up, but in a way we are certain that HTC will not have to face major consequences from these lawsuits.
