RIM announced its fourth quarter financial stats for the fiscal year that ended in February 26, 2011 and while the quarterly report looks pretty good, the overall figures are not that bright. The Canadian manufacturer shipped 14.9 million handsets in the last three months, which is more than the estimates but unfortunately less than the 16.2 million iPhones sold by Apple in the same time frame.

RIM earned 934 million dollars this quarter, as in 1.78$ per share which is up from 710 million dollars (1.27 $ per share) from last year. Revenue for the quarter was 5.56 billion dollars up from the 4.08 billion reported for the same quarter last year, but slightly under the estimate of 5.65 billion.

RIM’s prediction for the upcoming quarter estimates that the revenue will drop to an interval between 5.2 to 5.5 billion dollars and the earnings per share to fall between the 1.47 to 1.55 $, as a result of lower selling prices for its handsets and increased level of investment in the upcoming PlayBook tablet and the risk of disruption in the supply chain due to the recent Japan events.
