RIM’s new upcoming tablet device, the BlackBerry PlayBook has at last a confirmed released date and a price. RIM confirmed that the BlackBerry PlayBook will be available for purchase on 19th of April, with a starting price of 499$ for the 16 GB version.

The 32 GB and 64 GB versions will be available as well on launch, with retail prices of 599$ and 699$. On 19th of April, the BlackBerry Playbook will be made available to purchase in all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores in the United States, and the Best Buy and Future Shop stores in Canada.

The preorder phase already started for the United States and Canada, and customers can place their orders directly by visiting their local Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile or Future Shop store or by ordering on-line.

The success of this device is questionable unfortunately considering that RIM teased the public for far too long (six months) leaving thus the eventual customers either impatient, either fed up with the long wait.

The price might be an issue as well, considering that not many average consumers are willing to pay as much as they would for an iPad 2 and benefit from a smaller screen fewer apps.
