Facebook 2.0 For BlackBerry Introduces Chat And Improves User Experience

It seems that BlackBerry Traffic is not the only one thing that RIM is updating in this period. Facebook for BlackBerry just was sent into a limited beta, and it’s looking like an entire different deal. The biggest new feature is Chat, which was long since overdue; the notification system has been changed to resemble the BlackBerry notification bar. The news feed has been given a facelift so that added functions (liking and commenting) would be put away in an expandable view.

There are some other user interface updates on top of that, but no function out of the ordinary: sharing pictures, updating your Facebook page, reading updates from friends, checking to places and integrating your address book with the social network, is still there.

Except Chat, it seems the main goal of the update is to improve overall user experience and to integrate it with the BlackBerry 6. The developments are considered to be a heavy blow to developers that specialized in developing Facebook chat clients, but they were actually providing services that should have been included in the phone’s native functions.

If you want to experience the new app, please go to the BlackBerry Beta Zone and try to enlist into the Facebook 2.0 limited trial. If you do not manage to get it the evaluation process, you can expect the new app to be ready for public release around the same time that RIM’s OS 6.1 devices are launched.
